Two elements x and y have 6 and 7 electrons in their N-shell and M-shell respectively. What will be the ratio of the atomic number of X and Y
Answers
Answer:
this is the answer....
Answer:
X element is having 6 electrons in N-shell means K, L, M shells are completely filled with electrons and in N-shell is with 6 electrons.
So, as we know that K-shell accommodates 2 electrons, L-shell accommodates 8 electrons, M-shell accommodates 18 electrons and N-shell is having 6 electrons (2+8+18+6 = 34).
Y element is having 7 electrons in M shell means K, L shells are completely filled with electrons and M shell is having 7 electrons.
So, as we know that K shell accommodates 2 electrons L shell accommodates 8 electrons and M shell is having 7 electrons. (2+8+7 = 17)
The number of electrons is equal to number of protons in a neutral atom. So, element X is having atomic number 34, Y element is having atomic number 17.
The ratio of X and Y elements is 34/17= 2:1.
