Two elements x and y have atomic number 12 and 16 respectively.To which period of modern periodic table do these elements belong? What type of bond is formed

THE ELEMENT X HERE IS MAGNESIUM (mg) AND THE ELEMENT Y HERE IS SULPHUR (s) .

These two elements when bond together form an ionic bond as the magnesium loses its two electrons to the sulphur atom. Both atoms will have a complete outer shell. The magnesium atom has a +2 charge and the sulphur atom will have a -2 charge.
