Two elements X and Y have atomic numbers 12 and 16 respectively. To which period of the modern periodic table do these two elements belong? What type of bond will be formed between them and why? Also give the chemical formula of the compound

X = 12, it means it is Magnesium and it belongs to 2nd period of the modern periodic table

Y = 16, it means it is Sulphur and it belongs to 16th period of the modern periodic table.

They will form an ionic bond having formula XY or MgS

there are 3 number of shells so element X belongs to period 3 similarly element Y belongs to period 3..
