Two elements X and Y have atomic Numbers 12 and 16 respectively write the electronic configuration for these elements. To which period of the modem periodic table do these two elements belong. What type of bond will form between thein? Why?

X-2,8,2. Period 2

Y-2,8,6 Period 2

They form ionic bond because x have valence electron 2 and y have valence electron 6 . So element X will focus on giving an electron in order to attain a octet. But Y focus on gaining electron because it have 6 electron in valence shell so it attain octet.
