Answer:

Elements X and Y belong to different periods. Element X belongs to Period 4. Element Y belongs to Period 3. An ionic bond will be formed between them. This is because, by donating 2 electrons from the atom of Element X to 2 atoms of Element Y, a strong electrostatic attraction is formed. This because this donating/accepting of electrons leads to the formation of a cation [X] and anion [Y]. Hence, an ionic bond is formed. The chemical formed is XY2.
