Two equal glasses are respectively 1/5th and 1/6th full of milk , they are then filled up with water and the contents are mixed in a tumbler . Find the ratio of milk to water in the tumbler.​

Let's name the glasses as A and B

Consider for glass A ,

milk is 1/5 th of total capacity , hence milk = x/5

water = x - x/5 = 4x/5

Consider for glass B,

milk is 1/6 th of total capacity, hence milk = x/6

water = x - x/6 = 5x/6

Now if contents of two glasses are mixed in a pot then

Total milk in pot = x/5 + x/6 = 11x/30

Total water in pot = 4x/5 + 5x/6 = 49x/30

Ratio of milk to water in the pot = ( 11x/30 ) / ( 49x/30 )

= 11 : 49
