Two equal sides of a triangle are each 8 m less than six times the third side. If its perimeter is 23 m, what are its side-lengths?

So, each of the equal sides = (x-8) m

Perimeter = 23 m.

According to condition,

(x-8)+(x-8)+x = 23

or, x-8+x-8+x = 23

or, 3x-16 = 23

or, 3x = 23+16

or, 3x = 39

or, x = 39/3

or, x = 13

So, 3rd side = x m = 13 m.

and each of the equal sides = (x-8) m = (13-8) m = 5 m.

Hence, its sides are 5 m, 5 m and 13 m.
