Dear student,

Given :-

  • vector A = 10 N
  • Vector B = 10 N
  • Angle between vectors = 120°

To find :-

  • the magnitude of resultant vector

Solution :-

We know by the formula for a resultant vector of two vectors making an angle ∅ as;

                R = √A² + B² + 2ABcos∅

Putting the given values in the above formula, we obtain;

   R = √A² + B² + 2ABcos∅

   R = √10² + 10² + 2(10)(10) (- 1/2)

   R = √200 + 200(-1/2)

   R = √200 - 100

   R = √100

   R = 10 N

  |R| = 10

Hence, the magnitude of the resultant vector is 10.
