Two equilateral triangles have the sides of length 34cm and 85 cm respectively. Find the greatest length of tape that can measure the sides of both of them exactly. (ans. 17)

As we have to find the tape to measure both of them we should find the hcf of the two numbers

As we have to measure both of them means we should find hcf of two numbers

HCF of 34 and 85 =17

If we keep tape 2 times we measure length of 34 and if we measure it 5 times we get length of 85.

i.e.,,17×2=34

17×5=85

HCF of 85 and 34 is 17.

Therefore, 17cm is your answer.
