Time -work problem

Given:

No. of answer sheets in school A is less than school B by 400.

Time taken by officials to check answer sheets is 12 days less in B than that in A.

Official checks 20 sheets/day in school A and 25 sheets/day in school B.

To find:

Total number of answer sheet checked in school A.

Explanation:

Let the number of answer sheets in school A be x.

So, the number of answer sheets in school B be (x+400).

Number of sheets checked by officials in class A is 20 sheet/day.

Number of sheets checked by officials in class B is 25 sheet/day.

Let the number of days taken by official in school A be d days.

Let the number of days taken by official in school B be (d-12) days.

According to question,

No. of sheet checked per day  × no. of day taken = Total no of sheets

So,

20 ×d=x    ------------------------------(i)

and

25(d-12)=x+400 ---------------------(ii)

On solving these equation,

Putting the value of x in (ii), we get

25d-300=20d+400

5d= 700\\d=140 days

So,

x= 140 × 20

x=2800

Hence, total number of answer sheets in school A is 2800.
