Heat from the Sun reaches is by the process of radiation. As we know radiation do not need any material medium for heat transfer. It takes place in the form of electromagnetic radiations. In space (where there is Sun) there is no atmosphere, no medium; so convection can't take place. By radiation only heat can be transmitted by Sun to Earth.
