Two fields have the same perimeter one is a square of side 72m and

another is a rectangle of length 80m. Which field has the greater area

and by how much?​

  3. P=4S=4(72)=288 m
  4. Area of square= s x s=72 m x 72 m=5184 sq m
  5. for rectangle P=2L+2W so P-2L=2W and W=1/2(P-2L)
  6. width of rectangle=W =1/2(P-2L)... P is same as square=288m and L=80 m (given)
  7. W=1/2(288-2(80))=1/2(128)=64 m
  8. Area of rectangle A=L x W=80 m x 64 m= 5120 sq m

Area of square is larger by (5184 sq m - 5120 sq mm) = 64 sq m
