In the above Question , the following information is given -

Two fifth of a number when subtracted from four-fifth of the same number is equal to 14 .

To find -

Find the number .

Solution -

Let us innitially assume that the required number is X .

Now , we have the following condition -

Two fifth of a number when subtracted from four-fifth of the same number is equal to 14 .

Now ,

If the required number is X ,

Two fifth of the number -

=> [ 2 x / 5 ]

Four fifth of the same number -

=> [ 4 x / 5 ]

Now ,

Two fifth of that number is subtracted from four-fifth of the same number.

This can be algebraically written as -

=> [ 4 x / 5 ] - [ 2 x / 5 ]

=> [ 4x - 2 x / 5 ]

=> [ 2x / 5 ]

But ,

This is equal to 14 .

Thus ,

[ 2 x / 5 ] = 14

=> [ 2 x / 5 ] × 5 = 14 × 5

=> 2 x × [ 5 / 5 ] = 70

=> 2 x = 70

=> x = 35 .

Thus , the required number is 35 .

__________

Verification -

[ 4 x / 5 ]

=> { 4 × 35 } / 5

=> 4 × 7 = 28

[ 2 x / 5 ]

=> { 2 × 35 } / 5

=> 2 × 7 = 14

=> [ 4 x / 5 ] - [ 2 x / 5 ]

=> 28 - 14

=> 14
