Diagram: \\ \setlength{ \unitlength}{1cm}} \thicklines \begin{picture}(10,10) \put(1,0){ \line(1,0){6}} \put(3.2,0){ \line(0,1){0.8}} \put(3.2,0.8){ \line(1,0){1.8}} \put(5,0.8){ \line(0, - 1){0.8}} \put(1.3,0.4){\vector(1,0){2}} \put(1.5,0.5){ \sf 7N East} \put(7,0.4){ \vector( - 1,0){2}} \put(5.5,0.5){ \sf 5N West} \put(3.75,0.3){ \sf Body} \end{picture}

Solution:

Given, Two forces 5N and 7N, acting on a body from opposite directions. \\

Here, The directions of the forces are not given so I am supposing them west and east respectively.

 \\

Since, 7N is acting from the east direction and 5N acting from the west direction. So the force cancels each other and the greater force left out after getting reduced in magnitude.

 \\

☛ Resultant Force = 7 N East - 5 N West

☛ Resultant Force = 2 N East

 \\ \\

Note:

Since, You haven't provided the diagram or mentioned the directions of the two forces, So Let me tell you that the direction of the resultant force will be in the direction of the greater force ( Here, 7N ).
