Given : Two forces are 10N and 6N applied on ends A and B respectively

Length of uniform rod = 3m

To find : The tension acting on a cross-section 2m from A

Solution : Let's assume the mass of the rod be M.

• Acceleration due to unbalanced forces be a, tension at 2m from end A be T

• For the entire rod, the newton equation will be

10 - 6 = M×a

M×a = 4

• For 2m part from end A, the equation will be

10 - T = (2M/3)×a

10 - T = (2M/3)×(4/M)

10 - T = 8/3

T = 10 - 8/3

T = 22/3

The tension acting on a cross-section 2m from A is 22/3
