There will be a force of 10 N on the direction of the 50 N force

☞ Two forces of 50 N is applied on a direction d and a force of 40 N is on its opposite direction and let it be is -d

➠ The net force

 \sf{}as \: given \: that \: they \: both \: act \: on \: opposite \: direction \\  \\    \huge\sf{ \orange{f_{net} = \: sum \: of \: the \: forces }}

★ As are given that the forces are in opposite directions then let us take one force 50 N and the other as -40 N

So,

 \leadsto \tt{}f_{net} = 50 + ( - 40) \\  \\  \leadsto \tt{}f_{net} = 50 - 40 \\  \\  \tt {\dashrightarrow{}f_{net} = \large \purple{ 10 \: N}}

For easy understanding:-

We could also assume the force 50 N as negative and 40 N as positive but the force will be in negative( in the direction of the 50 N force) but we did the opposite way just for simplicity.
