Two friends Arun and Nishit, on their last day in college, decided to meet after 20 years on a
river. Arun had to sail 42 km to the meeting place and Nishit had to sail 355 per cent less. To
arrive at the meeting place at the same time as his friend Nishit, Arun started at the same time as
Nishit and sailed with the speed exceeding by 5 km/h the speed of Nishit. Find the speed of Arun.

Answer:

Explanation:

Distance travelled by arun = 42 km

Distance travelled by nitish = 35 5/7 % of 42 which is 42 - 15 = 27 km

Speed of nitish be x kmph

Speed of arun be x+5 kmph

Since time should be equal

Therefore,

42/x+5 = 27/x

42x - 27x= 135

15x = 135

X = 135/15 = 9 kmph

Explanation:

Distance Arun =42km

Distance Nishit

[35 +(5/7 )]% less than Arun

= [64+(2/7)] % of×42

= (450/7)×(42/100)

= 27 kms

Let speed Arun=x km/h

Speed Nishit = (x-5)

(42/x) = 27/(x-5)

42(x-5) = 27x

15x = 210

x = 14 km/hour

Answer 14 kmph
