two bicycles whose prices were in the ratio of 1 : 5

Let the  cost price [CP]  of bicycle A be 1x and the bicycle B be 5x

SP of bicycle A = [1 - (loss / 100) ] * CP

⇒SP =[ 1 -10 /100 ] * x = 9x/10

SP of bicycle B = [1 - (loss / 100) ] * CP

⇒SP =[ 1 -10 /100 ] * 5x = 45x/10

Now ATP

the difference of the money earned by them was Rs. 3600

∴[ 45x/10 ] - [ 9x/10 ] =3600

⇒45x -  9x =3600 * 10

⇒ 36x = 36000

⇒ x =  Rs 1000  = the cost price of the cheaper cycle [A ]

the cost price of the costlier cycle [B ] =5x = 5*1000 = Rs 5000  ANS
