For 25 seconds Phoeba has run before Rachael catches up

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the time taken by Rachael to catches up with Phoeba = t

Rachael runs at the speed = 5 meters/sec.

Phoeba runs at the speed = 3 meters/sec.

Since Rachael gives Phoeba a head-start of the time = 10 sec.

Therefore, Phoeba runs in 10 second = 10 × 3 = 30 meters

So the equation would be

5t = 3t +30

2t = 30

t = 15

After 15 second Rachael catches up with Phoeba.

Therefore, the time for which Phoeba has run before Rachael catches up

= 15 + 10

= 25 seconds.

For 25 seconds Phoeba has run before Rachael catches up
