Let us assume that,

• Distance from Asansol to Kolkata = D km .
• Speed of Raju on bike = y km/h .

case 1) :- By car

→ speed = 40 km/h

→ Time = x hours .

so,

→ Distance = speed * time

→ D = 40x ------------- Eqn.(1)

case 2) :- By Bike

→ speed = y km/h

→ Time = (x - 1) hours.

so,

→ Distance = speed * time

→ D = y(x - 1) ----------- Eqn.(2)

also, given that,

→ Time (1) + Time (2) = 9 hours.

→ x + (x - 1) = 9

→ 2x - 1 = 9

→ 2x = 9 + 1

→ 2x = 10

→ x = 5 hours.

putting value of x in Eqn.(1) , we get,

→ D = 40x = 40 * 5 = 200 km (Option C) (Ans.)

Hence, the distance between Asansol and Kolkata is 200 km.
