Two friends Ram and Rahim started from two places A and B towards B and A respectively at 11:40 a.m. The speeds of Ram and Rahim are in the ratio 3 : 4. They meet at C (in between A and B) spent some time together and both started towards their destination at 12:40 p.m. If Ram reached B at 1: 44 p.m. how much time did they spend together?

Solution :-

Speed of ram : Speed of Rahim = 3 : 4

so,

→ Distance travelled by ram : Distance travelled by Rahim = 3 : 4 => Let 3x and 4x .

then,

  • A to B = 7x km .

now,

→ Time taken by Ram to reach B from C = 1:44 - 12:40 = (64/60) = (16/15) hours .

and,

→ Distance coverd by Ram = 4x km .

so,

→ Ram covers 4x km in = (16/15) hours.

→ Ram had covered 3x km in = (16/15) * (3/4) = (4/5) hours = 48 minutes .

then,

→ Ram reached at C = 11:40 + 48 = 12 :28 PM .

therefore,

→ Time spent by them together = 12:40 - 12:28 = 12 minutes (Ans.)
