Given : Two friends x and y appeared for an audition.

The probability of selection of x is 2/5 and that of y is 1/7.

To Find:  the probability that both of them are selected.

Solution:

probability of selection of x is 2/5

P(x) = 2/5

probability of selection of y is 1/7

P(y) = 1/7

Both events are independent

Hence probability that both of them are selected. = P(x).P(y)

= (2/5) (3/7)

= 6/35

the probability that both of them are selected. is 6/35
