(b) they sold fruit's, hawked newspapers, conducted tourist round the town, and ran errands. (c)the boys pay the hospital charges in which her sister treatment was going on.

a)The Author must said that because Everyone work for there own savings and may to fulfill there own needs but the appearance of the two boys said that they didn't spend money on there own.
So, the narrator wanted to know ' What they do with that money ? ' . That's Y he asked taht question.
b) The Boys did many works. They did many odd jobs like they Sold wild strawberries at the outskirts of Verona, The Polished shoes, They Hawked newspapers, They guide the tourists to visit the famous places in Verona city.
c) They Saved these money not for themselves but they used that money in the treatment of there sister Lucia, who is suffering from Tuberculosis of spine.

ria582017: I must think that if we are getting money than we should save it. And the author ask them because they were of a tender age and they work very hard to earn money &they didn't use it also , that why the author ask them.
