Its basically a subtraction of forces

U can take an example of a box keep it in middle and ask one of your friend to pull towards it . for eg if ur friend applies 5N and you apply 10 N So you are gonna win by a difference of 5 newton here is the way!

Your friend force :5N

Your Force: 10N

Total Force Difference :10-5=5N

(Direction is changed keep in mind so that is why - sign)
