Two identical cisterns are provided with inlets of different flow rates, first one can be filled in 24 minutes, while the second in 36 minutes. If the two cisterns are brought at the same level and connected at the bottom, and both inlets are opened simultaneously, how long does it take for both the cisterns to be filled?

Given= Rate of two different Cisterns

To find= Time to fill both simultaneously

Explanation=

Time of Cistern A to fill= 24min

Time of Cistern B to fill= 36min

In 1 minute Cistern fills by: A= 1/24 mins and B= 1/36 mins

Time of both to fill together in 1min = 1/24 + 1/36 => 3+2/72 => 5/72

Therefore to fill simultaneously it will take 72/5min = 14.4mins
