Given,

Two identical metal spheres A and B have charges +12 nC and -6 nC respectively. a neutral identical metal sphere C is touched to A and then to B and finally removed.

To find

  1. charge on sphere C
  2. have electron be added or removed from sphere.
  3. number of electrons is added or given to sphere C.

first sphere C is touched to sphere A.

so, charge on sphere C = (+12 + 0)/2 = +6 nC.

and then sphere C is touched to sphere B.

so, charge on sphere C = (+6 - 6)/2 = 0 nC

therefore, charge on sphere C is 0 nC.

sphere C remains neutral. therefore electrons are neither added nor removed from sphere C.

it is clear that number of electrons added or removed from sphere C is 0.
