Total mass = 2m  

Velocity of centre of mass V  

Momentum of system = (2m) * V = 2mV  

The total momentum can also be worked out by adding the separate momenta. Take the object with velocity 2v to be moving in the positive direction.  

Momentum of system = [m * (2v)] + [m * (-v)]  

= 2mv -mv  

= mv  

So 2mV = mv  

V = v/2 (answer C)
