Two identical pendulums A and B are suspended
from the one point. The bobs A and B are given
positive charges Q, and Q, respectively. If mass of
A and B are m and m2 (m, > m) and angles
from vertical of A and B are 0, and e, respectively
(1) O, = 0₂
(2) O, > O₂
(3) Og < 0₂

If two identical pendulums are suspended at the same point then (1) θ1 = θ2.

  • According to Coulomb's law, the electrostatic force between two charges is directly proportional to the product of the magnitude of charges. It is also inversely proportional to the distance square between them.
  • The bobs A and B have positive charges as Q and Q!.
  • Therefore, both the pendulums will experience an equal force and they will also possess the same tension.
  • Hence, it can be said that they will make equal angles with the vertical, ie. θ1 = θ2.
