Two identical sonic sources S1 and S2 produce plane
harmonic progressive waves in the same phase. S1 is at
origin (0, 0) and the wave produced by it is given by
y = a sin (wt - kx). If S2 is d distance from S1 as shown
in the figure, the equation of wave produced by S2 along
the x-axis will be given by
(Given that distance between S2 & S1 is d ; S2 & S1 are along x-axis.)
(a) y= a sin (wt - kx)
(b) y= a sin [wt - k (x + d)]
(c) y= a sin [wt - k (x - d)]
(d) Data insufficient

Answer:

c

y= a sin[wt-k(x-d)]

Explanation:

at t=0;x=d; S2 source must have y=0 since S1 and S2 are identical and at t=0 S1 has y= 0,

only eqn c satisfies this.
