Two lamps one rated 100 W at 220 V and other 40 W at 220 V are connected parallel to 220 V mains supply. Calculate the current drawn from the supply line

Answer:

Power of 1st lamp = 100W

Voltage of 1st lamp = 220V

By applying, P = V^2/R

R = V^2/P

= 48400/100

= 484ohm.

Power of 2nd lamp = 40W

Voltage of 2nd lamp = 220V

By applying, P = V^2/R

R = V^2/P

= 48400/40

= 1210ohm.

We know that they are connected in parallel

Req = 1/R1+1/R2

= 1/484+1/1210

= 345.71ohm.

By applying, V = IR

I = V/R

= 220/345.71

= 0.636371Amp.
