◀  Question: ◀

Two lamps, one rated 100 W at 220 V and the other 200 W at 220V are connected (i) in series and (ii) in parallel to electric main supply of 220V. Find the current drawn in each case ?

◀ Method of Solution:◀

→  Let to be the First Lamp's Power(P1)

→  Let to be the Second Lamp's Power(P2)

→  According to the Question's Statement!→

◀ Given:◀

→  P1=100 W ,

→   V = 220 V ,

→  P2 = 200 W

◀ Solution: ◀

⇒ P1= VI1

⇒   100/220 = 0.46 A

Again,

⇒  I2=P2/ V = 200/220

= 0.90 A

Adding Both Current! (In Series)

⇒  I = I1+I2

⇒   I = 0.46+0.90

⇒   I = 1.36 Ampere

(2) In Parallel,→

 \frac{1}{ i _1} + \frac{1}{ i _2} \\ \\ \frac{1}{ 0.46} + \frac{1}{ 0.90} \\ \\ = 3.28 A
