. Two lamps, one rated 100 W at 220 V and the other 200 W at 220V are connected (i) in series and (ii) in parallel to
electric main supply of 220V. Find the current drawn in each case.

R1= V^2/P1=220×220/100=484ohm

R2=V^2/P2=220×220/200=242ohm

In series

Rs=R1+R2=484+242=726ohm

Therefore,Is=V/Rs=220/726=10/33A=0.30A

In parallel

1/Rp=1/R1+1/R2=1/484+1/241

Rp=484/3ohm

Ip=V/Rp=220×3/484=30/22A=1.36A

1st lamp

power=100w

V=220v

for 1st lamp current drown is

P=VI

then, I=P/V

I=100/220

=>0.45A(approx)

For 2nd lamp

power=200w

V=220v

applying

P=IV

=>I=P/V

=>I=200/220

=>I=0.99A

1st = 0.45A

2nd=0.99A
