solution : Power of system of lenses, P = P₁ + P₂

we know, power is inverse of focal length.

i.e., P = 1/f

so, 1/f = P₁ + P₂

⇒1/f = 4D + (-6D) = -2D

⇒f = - 50cm

here an object is placed at a distance 50 cm from this combination of lenses. i.e., u = - 50cm

using formula, 1/v - 1/u = 1/f

⇒1/v - 1/-50 = 1/-50

⇒1/v = 1/-50 + 1/-50

⇒1/v = 1/-25

⇒v = -25 cm

Therefore position of image is 25 cm from the combination of lenses.
