Two like charged balloons, at a distance of 0.50 m apart, experience a repulsive force of 0.45 N. What is the force if the distance between the balloons is doubled?

Distance of separation of the two ballons= 0.5 m

Repulsive force acting on each of the blocks = 0.45 N

To find:

The repulsive force acting on the balloons if the distance between the two ballons is doubled.

Solution:

Force experienced by the balloons is inversely proportional to the sqaure of distance between them.

So if distance between the ballons is doubled then force will decrease by 4 times.

Final force = 0.45/4 = 0.11025 N

Therefore the force that the ballons will experience will be 0.11025 N.
