Two liquids P and Q of masses 103 gr and
204 gr are heated. Then 3 gr and 4
gr of liquids
expelled when heated through 120°C and
100°C respectively. Then which liquid has

Given that,

Mass of liquid P= 103 g

Mass of liquid Q=204 g

Liquid P expelled = 3 g

Liquid P expelled = 4 g

Initial temperature = 100°C

Final temperature = 120°C

We need to calculate the coefficient of apparent expansion of liquid P

Using formula of coefficient of apparent expansion

\gamma_{P}=\dfrac{x}{m-x}\times\dfrac{1}{\Delta T}

Where, x = liquid expelled

m = mass of liquid

\Delta T = change temperature

Put the value into the formula

\gamma_{P}=\dfrac{3}{103-3}\times\dfrac{1}{120-100}

\gamma_{P}=0.002

We need to calculate the coefficient of apparent expansion of liquid Q

Using formula of coefficient of apparent expansion

\gamma_{Q}=\dfrac{x}{m-x}\times\dfrac{1}{\Delta T}

Put the value into the formula

\gamma_{Q}=\dfrac{4}{204-4}\times\dfrac{1}{120-100}

\gamma_{Q}=0.001

Hence, liquid P has  greater coefficient of apparent expansion.
