Two magnets, X and Y, are placed as shown in the diagram. It is observed that magnet X floats above magnet Y. Give reason for this observation.

because of same pole
like if the upper portion of y magnet is south pole then
the down portion of x magnet is also south therefore it is so .
it is not confirmed that whether it is south pole or North pole but the down portion of x magnet and upper portion of y magnet are same therefore they are floating becz of property of repulsion of magnet!!

Hey There! The reason for floating magnet X is that magnet Y is charged similarly as magnet X.
And, Its the property of charged bodies that if both body is charged with same charges, then it would repel each other and, when it is charged with dissimilar charges then it would attract each other.
