M1 will land first because the more the mass the more will be the speed of that object think you wrap stone with paper and throw from top of the building then notice the speed and time taken and compare with a only paper thrown from building.

As both M1 and M2 are falling freely without any external force acting on them:

There is no horizontal acceleration.

Hence force along horizontal component is zero ( f=ma).

The only force acting on the two masses is there weight.

Weight of M1=m1g

Weight of M2=m2g

Hence the only acceleration acting on them is gravity.

Hence they accelerate at the same rate and reach the ground at the same time, irrespective of their masses.
