Explanation:

ANSWER

Initial momentum of the system is zero  i.e.  Pi=0

Let the velocity acquire by masses m1 and m2 just after they are released be v1 and v2.

Final momentum of the system  Pf=m1v1−m2v2

Using conservation of momentum :  Pi=Pf

∴  0=m1v1−m2v2

⟹  m1v1=m2v2          (v=dtdx)

⟹m1x1=m2x2

⟹  x2x1=m1m2
