Solution:

Shortest  length that can be measured exactly by each one of these rods means we have to find the LCM of the length of the given rods

we can find the LCM by the prime factorization:

66 = 2×3×11

84 = 2×2×3×7

  • LCM[66, 84] = 2×3
  • LCM[66, 84] = 6

Hence 6 cm is the shortest length by which can be used to measure the rods accurately

The shortest length can be 6 cm
