total time taken by each to complete the work = 12 x 20

                                                                              = 240 hrs

if A works 8 hrs , so the time taken for completion of work = 240/8

                                                                                                 = 30 days = x

if B works 6 hrs , so the time taken for completion of work = 240/6

                                                                                                  = 40 days = y

hope it helps you

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

total work =  12x20 = 240hr

but A - 8hr and B - 6 hr   per day alternatively

starting with A

A  - 8 hr         1day

B - 6 hr          next day          (work alternate days)

14 hr   --------  2 days                (therefore total work is 240)

14 x 17                                   2 days x 17

= 238 (total 240 hr)            = 34 days

x - 34 days   and  y - remaining 2 hours to complete the work
