Answer:

The remaining portion of the work to be completed =  \frac{3}{10}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

A can complete the work  in 8 days

B can complete the work in 20 days

Both A and B did the work for  4 days

To find,

The remaining portion of the work to be completed

Solution:

Since A can complete the work in 8 days, the portion of the work A can do in a day = \frac{1}{8}

Since B can complete the work in 20 days, the portion of the work B can do in a day = \frac{1}{20}

Then, the portion of work A and B together can complete in a day

= \frac{1}{8} + \frac{1}{20}

= \frac{5+2}{40}  = \frac{7}{40}

Since they worked together for 4 days, the portion of the work completed

= \frac{7}{40} X4

= \frac{7}{10}

Hence, the remaining work to be completed = 1 -  \frac{7}{10} =  \frac{3}{10}

Answer :

The remaining portion of the work to be completed =  \frac{3}{10}
