Two men and 7 children complete a piece of work in 4 days and 4 men and 4 children complete the same in only 3 days. find the number of days required to complete the same work by one man or a child

then, 2x + 7y = 4 ........i)

4x + 4y = 3 ........ii)

Multiplying 2 to equations i)

4x + 14y = 8 ........iii)

Subtracting equations iii) and ii)

4x + 14y = 8

-(4x) -(4y) = -3

= 10y = 5

y=1/2 .......iv)

placing equation iv) in equation ii) we have

x=1/4

Therefore 1 child complete its work in 1/2 day and 1 man complete its work in 1/4 day.
