Answer:

average hourly wage they earn = 24 $

Step-by-step explanation:

Two men, Ralph and Sean, take up a typing job requiring 100 pages to be typed. Each of them types 50

pages. Sean charges $20 per hour while Ralph (being 1.5 times as fast as Sean) charges $30 per hour

Let say Sean  speed X pages per hr

Sean type 50 pages

Number of hrs taken = 50/X  hr

Charges = 20 * 50/X  = 1000/X   $

Ralph speed  1.5X  pages per hr

Ralph type 50 pages

Number of hrs taken = 50/(1.5X)  =  100/3X hr

Charges = 30 * 50/(1.5X)X  = 1000/X  $

Total Charges = 1000/X  + 1000/X   = 2000/X  $

Total Hrs = 50/X   + 100/3X  = (150 + 100)/3X  = 250/3X

average hourly wage = Total Charges /Total Hrs

= (2000/X)/(250/3X)

= 24

average hourly wage they earn = 24 $
