Two metallic cylinder made of same material and radii r and 2r are joined as shown in figure.
If top end is fixed and lower end of cylinder B is twisted by angle q, then angle of twist for cylinder A is (both cylinder have same length)

Let θ1 and θ2 be the angle of twist produced in cylinders A and B respectively.

Then, θ1 + θ2 = θ _[1]

In equilibrium, restoring torque in both cylinders will be of equal magnitude

Hence, [πGr^4 θ1] /2l = πG(2r)^4 θ2/ 2l

∴ θ1 = 16θ2 _[2]

From [1] and [2] we have

θ1 = 16/17 θ
