3x-x=-4-2

Solution :

Let the number = x

according to the problem given,

two more than thrice the

number is equal to 4 less

than the number

3x + 2 = x - 4

=> 3x - x = -4 - 2

=> 2x = -6

=> x = ( -6 )/2

=> x = -3

Therefore ,

Required number = x = -3

Verification :

3x - 4 = x - 4

put x = -3 in the equation,

we get

3(-3) + 2 = -3 - 4

=> -9 +2 = -7

=> -7 = -7 [ True ]
