Answer:-

The Smaller Number is 17.

Explanation:-

Given:-

  • The difference between two natural numbers is 1.

  • The numbers add up to give 35.

To Find:-

  • The smaller number.

Solution:-

Let the two numbers be x and y

Acc. To Que.:-

⟹ x - y = 1.     ---eq(1)

⟹ x + y = 35.     ---eq(2)

By adding both the equations:-

⟹ (x - y) + (x + y) = 35 + 1.

⟹ x - y +x + y = 36.

⟹ 2x = 36.

⟹ x = 36/2.

⟹ x = 18.

By putting the value of x in eq(1)

⟹ x - y = 1.

⟹ 18 - y = 1.

⟹ y = 18 - 1.

⟹ y = 17.

Therefore the smaller number is 17.
