Let the numbers be x and 2x.

According to the question,

(x-5)/(2x+4) = 5/4

=> 4(x-5) = 5(2x+4)

=> 4x - 20 = 10x + 20

=> -20 -20 = 10x - 4x

=> -40 = 6x

.•. x = -40/6 = -20/3

.•. the no.s are -20/3 and -40/3

Hope it helps you...
