Given : Two numbers are in the ratio 4:5. If 7 is subtracted from each of them, then the ratio becomes 3:4.

To Find : What are the numbers?

Solution :

❍ Let us assume, that the numbers are 4x and 5x respectively.

According to the question,

\sf{ \leadsto \: \dfrac{4x - 7}{5x - 7} = \dfrac{3}{4} }

\sf{ \leadsto \: 3(5x - 7) = 4(4x - 7) }

\sf{ \leadsto \: 15x - 21 = 16x - 28}

\sf{ \leadsto \: (-21) + 28 = 16x - 15x}

\sf{ \leadsto \: x = 7}

Therefore, the numbers are :

\pink{\bf{4x = 4 × 7 = \underline{28}}}

\purple{\bf{5x = 5 × 7 = \underline{35}}}
