Let,
Denominator = 5x
Numerator = 3x

===============

9 is subtractes from each,

 \frac{3x - 9}{5x - 9}  =  \frac{12}{23}  \\  \\ 23(3x - 9) = 12(5x - 9) \\  \\ 69x - 207 = 60x - 108 \\  \\ 69x - 60x =  - 108 + 207 \\  \\ 9 x = 99 \\  \\ x =  \frac{99}{9}  \\  \\ x = 11

Smaller number = 3x =3 × 11 = 33

I hope this will help you

Heya ✋

Let see your answer !!!!

Let the numerator be 3x and

denominator be 5x.

According to question ,

(3x - 9):(5x - 9) = 12:23

=> (3x - 9)/(5x - 9) = 12/23

=> 23(3x - 9) = 12(5x - 9)

=> 69x - 207 = 60x - 108

=> 69x - 60x = - 108 + 207

=> 9x = 99

=> x = 99/9

=> x = 11

Hence , the smaller number

= 3 × 11

= 33
