Concept:

The ratio of two numbers means how many times a number is another number.

Given:

The given two numbers are in the ratio of 4 : 5. And the sum of the two numbers is 135.

Find:

We are asked to find the two given numbers.

Solution:

As the two numbers are in ratio 4 : 5.

Let the bigger number be 5k and smaller number be 4k.

Thus, as the sum of two numbers is 135.

∴ 4k + 5k = 135

∴ 9k = 135

∴ k = \frac{135}{9}

∴ k = 15

∴ Smaller number  = 4k = 4 × 15 = 60

∴ Larger number  = 5 × 15 = 75

Thus, the two numbers are 60 and 75.
